A dotty 2nd birthday party
By Apphia Michael
And just like that, Tallis turned two last month. I never quite believed what everyone with kids used to say: that time, when children are involved, races ahead of you beyond belief, but it’s true and here I am celebrating her 2nd year. We adamantly (and rather naively) stated we weren’t going to have a party this year, but our resolve swiftly crumbled after Tallis so sweetly pleaded with us, specifically going into detail about how she so wanted a dinosaur cake, shiny silver balloons and an ice cream van (the girl’s vocabulary and attention to detail never cease to amaze me). We ended up deciding on a very small last-minute gathering of family and a few of our close friends.
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that Tallis isn’t a ‘girly’ girl, so I wanted to find her a birthday dress that was special and out of the ordinary, but also crucially one that she liked and would feel comfortable wearing in all day. I ended up at the treasure trove that is Orfeo (http://www.orfeodesign.com/), which carries amazing brands such as Misha and Puff, Tocoto Vintage, Gray Label and Motoreta. Tallis absolutely loved the oversized spotty dress we picked by Motoreta – the perfect blend of whimsical prettiness sharpened with a contemporary shift dress silhouette.
Having wasted time fretting for about a day about how exactly I was going to be able to organise a party with a week’s notice, I discovered the Pretty Little Party Shop (http://prettylittlepartyshop.co.uk) and fell for everything on the site. It literally has everything you need to throw a tasteful kids’ party – from balloons and tableware to party favours and decorations. In keeping with the pattern of her dress and some elements of her birthday party requests, we settled on a simple silver and polka dot theme, complete with brilliant ice cream cone bubbles for the kids to enjoy – so much better (and more affordable, phew!) than an ice cream van, don’t you think?
Tallis wears the Ilse dress by Motoreta, scarf by Tocoto Vintage and tights by Tinycottons, all available at Orfeo.

We are loving the Gucci Kids Spring 2016 collection designed by the amazing designer Alessandro Michele. So many beautiful pieces that you will find on the Gucci site here.
We also love this new collection because it is photographed by our favorite Lee Clower who is brilliant!.
I have a busy life, working full time, caring for my 3 littles, blogging, trying to squeeze in some household… So it can get quite chaotic and hectic sometimes! I try to seek order and peace in the little things, just to rule out stress. For instance, every night, we try to prepare the little backpacks and we try to lay out the clothes for the next day. About these clothes… what makes it a bit more easy is dressing my kids in the same brand, or the same colour scheme, ha! I never thought I would be THAT kind of mom, but yeah well, here I am! I love that it shows that they belong together and it looks super cute too! And choices are made so much quicker! The other day, they were wearing the cutest little threads from BeauLoves and we found these at one of our fave shops Weemondine.

For the love of Burgundy.
Burgundy. This color reminds me of my grandfather’s encyclpedia books in his librabry where I spent quite some time as a kid. When he passed away my grandmother gave the books to my father. 5 years ago we bought my parents house and I was so happy that I got to keep these gorgeous books. I always knew I wanted to do a shoot with them and when I saw the following pieces at Alex and Alexa (www.alexandalexa.com) I knew the time had come. The kids have been intrigued by all these beautiful books and were stoked they could finally ‘read’ them.
