Mother of Pearl

It was only after the Mother of Pearl A/W 17 show that Creative Director, Amy Powney, realised how much she’d been inspired by oversized pajamas, comfort blanket style scarves and giant squashy cushions – the vision of children dressing up in their mother’s clothes. Featuring Karen O’s soundtrack for Where the Wild Things Are for the London Fashion Week catwalk show, it all looked like a severe case of child’s play.

When she thought about how much kids had influenced the collection, Powney wanted to see them wearing the clothes too. Always powered by the notion that Mother of Pearl is “serious fashion not to be taken too seriously”, Powney cast some of her favourite children – Elsie, Tallis, Byron, Eric, Caspar and Louis – in some of this season’s favourite looks. Photographed by Toby Coulson and styled by Phoebe Arnold, it brings out the big kid in all of us.
